Next week is National Careers Week and hence it was fitting that the debate should be preceded by a careers workshop with visiting speakers from Brewin Dolphin and SABIC Petrochemicals. Gareth Johnson and Anna McCready, both Emmanuel alumni, and now working for Brewin Dolphin, began by talking about their career paths to date, before taking questions from the floor. Hallam Wheatley, a scientist from SABIC, followed this up by explaining his own slightly unusual journey to becoming a scientist at SABIC.
The much anticipated single-use plastic debate, hosted with our partners from the North East Initiative on Business Ethics Ltd, enabled sixth form students from Emmanuel College, Gosforth Academy, Harton Academy, and St.Bede’s, to engage in some strong academic jousting! Caroline Theobald CBE kept them all in check! Well done to all those involved and congratulations to the winners, Gosforth Academy. Fantastic logistical support was provided by many of my y10-y13 economists. Fabulous to be supported by an eminent judging panel comprising Gareth Johnson, Anna McCready, CFA, Professor Ron Beadle, Karl Morgan, and Hallam Wheatley.
