Newcastle United Writer for The Journal and Chronicle Live
During his time studying at Emmanuel College, Chris always harboured ambitions of becoming a sports journalist – and he pursued that passion during his time at the University of Edinburgh. While reading History in the Scottish capital, Chris started writing for The Student newspaper – the University of Edinburgh’s respected campus publication – and then took on the role of Sports Editor for two years.
Having gained work experience at the BBC, The Independent and also with The Chronicle and The Journal, Chris then gained his journalistic qualifications at the Press Association Training Centre in Newcastle after graduating from university. After earning a place on MailOnline’s graduate sports trainee scheme, Chris was seconded to the Manchester Evening News for a three-month period to cover two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, before heading down to London to work for the world’s largest news website – covering events such as the football World Cup, The Ashes and the Six Nations. The experience Chris gained at MailOnline earned him a role as Newcastle United Writer for The Journal, The Chronicle and the Sunday Sun – the region’s leading daily and weekend newspapers – as well as for the website ChronicleLive.
Chris follows NUFC around the country and beyond, covering their matches home and away, as well as attending press conferences, breaking news on the club, and providing analysis of the goings-on at St James’ Park.
Sport is Chris’ passion outside of work, too, and he regularly attends live football, rugby union and cricket matches, while he plays five-a-side football (to a very low standard) and squash on a weekly basis.
