GlobalBridge Future Stars Final

Competitors from Durham School, Heaton Manor, North East Futures UTC, and Emmanuel College gathered at Muckle LLP’s Newcastle HQ for the inaugural future stars final. In authentic Dragon’s Den style, the competing teams had to pitch their ideas to the judging panel and then answer a series of very challenging questions!

Year 10 economist, Manesha Sundar, pitched the idea of a mentoring scheme for students who are unable to access high quality education. Manesha’s teammate, Sophie Rowland, was unfortunately unable to attend the finals evening as she was visiting Cambridge University; however, she did help Manesha to prepare the presentation, and obviously sent her best wishes before Manesha took to the floor.

Manesha’s passionate presentation captivated the judges, and her ability to think on her feet during a testing question and answer session, secured the top prize; an iPad each! The discussion around the UK’s productivity problem demonstrated a tremendous understanding of GCSE Economics! It was a proud evening for students, staff, and parents from each of the schools. Our future is in safe hands!

Manesha and Sophie will now go on to develop their idea at next year’s Newcastle Startup Week which attracts hundreds of entrepreneurs to the region.
