In recent times, Swedish bank, Handelsbanken, joined the college’s business engagement partners programme. This week, year 13 economists were the first to benefit from this collaboration, having attended Handelsbanken’s economic investment seminar at The Falcons Rugby Stadium. They were the only students in attendance; however, all of the delegates made a special effort to welcome them, and chat over an early morning coffee and sausage sandwich!
Students listened attentively to the 3 presentations and made detailed notes in anticipation of the Q&A which was to follow. Phil Griffin, Client Director at Handelsbanken Wealth Management, kicked off proceedings by outlining how the bank’s investment experts can manage clients’ income and wealth. Ben Matthews, Sustainable Investment Manager at Heartwood Investment Management (acquired by Handelsbanken in 2013), provided an insight into ethical and sustainable investment portfolios. To conclude, David Absolon, Investment Director at Heartwood, gave his team’s view on the likely direction of global markets given the relative uncertainties surrounding the US presidential election, the rise of global populism, and global trade disputes. Oh, and Brexit did get a mention in the Q&A! Some great questions from Sid, Harry and Jonathan.
A fascinating morning. Thank you for inviting us.
